SALUTI DA POZZUOLI
An old postcard sent from Pozzuoli and an evocative place set on the crest of a sulfatara. From the scene overlapping levels were created to define the three-dimensional effect: the first level includes the characters and the edge of the solfatara, the second the water vapor and the mountain in the background. The gas produced by the hydrothermal spring gradually rises from the bottom of the crater: a real sequence of the velocity of the continuous jet steam is created, just as the background sounds and noises are those recorded from the real location, in the same place reproduced in the postcard. The projection, at about 35 cm from the postcard, was calibrated to create a stereoscopic effect of the characters and the photographic set, making a context set in 1937 real and relevant.
